My mother was my first public speech trainer. A choral instructor and vocal
coach, mom was always "volunteering" me
to give speeches and recitations at church and/or public events. This
was my introduction to public speaking. And it eventually led me to a
broadcast journalism career. However,
it wasn't until a conversation with nationally renown
motivational speaker Les Brown that I seriously considered the
possibility of pursuing the public speaker's path. Mr. Brown and I were
shooting the breeze, waiting for a television show taping to start when
at one point he looked at me and said, "Darryl, why aren't you out
here doing this?" By "this" Les was eluding to using my God given
speaking skill to bring information and motivation to live audiences. I didn't
have a good answer for that question, and it forced me to think
seriously about when and how I should use this gift.
We all need motivation
and inspiration at one time or another. I'm always amazed at how the right
words carefully crafted and properly delivered can have such a huge
impact on peoples' lives. Well chosen words can renew hope; inspire
confidence; strengthen resolve; bring solace and comfort; and spur
individuals and groups to action. Public speaking for me is not as much
an art as it is a calling. I'm convinced that whenever I speak and to
whomever I speak, it's because I have both the privilege and the
obligation of
delivering prescriptive, solution-oriented guidance and
motivation.
I have addressed
private organizations, educational groups, church congregations and
college crowds. I can speak on a wide range of topics covering everything from
politics to pop culture. I particularly enjoy speaking about mass
media-with an emphasis on television and broadcast news,
religion, cultural and social trends, and group empowerment. I'm also
available to lend my voice to your next civic or social event as Master
of Ceremonies. If you'd like to schedule me for your next affair, please
click the 'Book Darryl' button and someone will respond promptly to your inquiry.
